History

On May 1st in 2002, Cedar Run Bakery opened its doors in a small rental space in the Cedar Run Complex that houses Kathy Gagnon and Associates' real estate office. After trying her hand at many other things, Cedar Run Bakery’s owner, Kristy Deyo, decided to return to what she loved, cooking. Her goal was to provide home baked cookies, muffins, cakes, and pies as well as home-style meals for busy parents and a great lunch for workers and tourists alike.

She compiled some of her favorite recipes from friends and grandmothers from both sides of her family and started cooking. The store was small, but homey feeling. Patrons were happy there was a place for great coffee, a daily changing variety of fresh muffins, and a quick but delicious cup of soup or sandwich for lunch. Word of “Kristy’s Place” quickly traveled. Before long, staff was needed to help with all of the cooking and service, and it was abundantly clear that the eight seats the original store provided were terribly insufficient.

Though Kristy was (and still is) thankful for loyal patrons who were willing to take their lunch to go (for lack of dining space) and tremendously supportive climbers who were willing to eat outside (even during the winter months), it was clear the store needed to grow.

This point was not lost on the new owners of the Woodruff Motel who had been frequenting the Cedar Run while planning and working on their own new endeavor, The Dartbrook Lodge. Soon a new plan was in place and the original Cedar Run closed its’ doors on May 21st 2006 in anticipation of its’ new location. After a monumental remodeling of the former gas station/antique store/auto sales/diner building that fronted the Lodge property, the new larger Cedar Run
re-opened on June 28th of 2006.
